Anecdotes

Here's a collection of fun facts and anecdotes about the team through the years!

From Capt Brian Bohen:
In the one picture [see picture from 2003 RPI meet] there is a reason all of us were pointing the rifles at Vu.About 20 minutes before we were set to perform in the competition, Vu dropped his rifle and broke the stock.  We had to run out to the van and change out the stock.  We didn't have a screwdriver to change the stocks so we ended up using a dime we found on the floor of the van as a screwdriver. It worked and we made it back to the gym to perform in time, but that was more hassle than we needed.  I don't know what kind of drill you do now, trick or precision, but we did trick drill with lots of rifle flips and throws and used the 14 pound M-1 rifles.

From  Lt Col Heather Eastlack
Ahh...drill team.  Dangerous memories.  :)
I have a scar on the inside of my right forearm from when I was spinning a rifle and it slipped and the sight gouged my arm (that was one of the two bloody injuries over my drill team career).  Then, the memory of an RPI drill meet competition where Alex Fafinski threw the rifle up in the air (blindfolded) and it landed on his head.  Ouch.  (but he did it successfully on SO may other occassions)
